End of summer with sound maps and some fun events.

Dear Friend,

How are you? We'd love to hear how you are, and how you've experienced summer this year.

We love this time of year because the squirrels go on hyperdrive to stash nuts and eat as much as possible before winter, and mushrooms sprout up in unexpected places. The berries are plentiful this year and we've enjoyed picking brambles on sessions and look forward to making jam, and crumble in the coming weeks.

We are delighted to announce, that Shuna has launched The Glasgow Tree Hugging Tournament!

We are calling all nature lovers and tree huggers to come and join like minded people in this unique family friendly event held in Glasgow for the first time.

During this event you will have the opportunity to truly express yourself and embrace the natural world around you whilst in the beautiful setting of Dams to Darnley woodlands. The Glasgow Tree Hugging Tournament is made up of three categories, each lasting 1minute, and participants are invited to take part in each one.

Speed Hugging: Where participants are invited to hug as many trees as possible in one minute with each hug lasting at least five seconds.

Dedication: In this round participants will have a minute to show their devotion, passion and loyalty to a tree of their choosing.

Freestyle: An opportunity for all tree huggers to get creative with a minute of innovative and inventive hugging.

We are also excited that Sophie is running Forest School for Adults!

Whether it's a regular few hours of time to yourself in the woods with an experienced and supportive leader to help you make the most of your time, or your looking for a different workshop to do with a group of friends, forest school for adults is a great place to practice reconnecting with nature.

We meet in Pollok Country Park and walk together to the location we will be based at, carrying some of the usual kit we take to forest school. This includes hammocks, ropes for swings, tarps, bit of firewood and whatever tools we need for the session. These sessions are designed to be supportive, friendly and fun and are for people who want to do new and different things outside other than walk the dog, though dogs are welcome...

Sessions are monthly, led by Sophie, and will have a theme:

Saturday 26th October, 1pm - 4pm, Fire Strikers

Saturday 16th November, 1pm - 4pm, Natural Tinders and Making Fire

Saturday 25th Jan, 1pm - 4pm, Whittling and Keeping Warm

Book below or be in touch with Sophie with any questions glasgowforestschools@gmail.com. Suggested minimum investment is £15 per person, special rates apply if you're bringing a friend or two.

And to finish off, we'd like to share this sound map activity - we've had great success with creating nature connection through this meditative process in our adult groups recently.

Sound maps are a great way of encouraging people to slow down and tune in with the place they are in. By taking the emphasis off the visual, and tuning people into the sounds around them, they have proved effective with all the groups we have used them with - children, people with disabilities, older people, teachers, farmers and park managers. - Sensory Trust
